Steinway & Sons “S” Vintage Baby Grand

Steinway introduced its 5’ 1” Model “S” in 1936 to answer a demand from pianists for a small grand that could fit into most rooms.  It was built to the same standards as all their larger grands, but on a much smaller scale.  Despite its size, it is a beloved model for those who desired the ‘Steinway sound’ but were limited by cost and space.

Many people feel that the Steinway pianos produced in the first sixty years of the 20^th Century were superior to what came from the factory later, especially during the period in the 1970s to early 1980s after the company was purchased by CBS in 1972.

This 1957 “S” is from that era when the Steinway family still controlled all aspects of manufacturing.  It’s been kept in good condition by its former family; it’s a great choice for a modest player on a budget who’s always wanted a Steinway baby grand.
