Outstanding Customer Service

“We bought our beautiful piano from PianoWerkes a few years ago. The customer service was outstanding and they spent many hours helping us choose our Yamaha. It was delivered on time and as promised. As if that wasn’t enough, we needed to store our piano while having our house built. I called PianoWerkes to get a suggestion for where I could store it in a climate controlled environment. They said they would store it for us free of charge for as long as we needed!  Very impressed with this business and would and have recommended it to anyone looking for a piano. No Pressure

“Good customer service. No pressure. Very nice selection of new and used pianos. Very competitive pricing.

When you buy an acoustic piano, the full amount of the purchase price can be applied as credit for another piano as long as you own the piano. For a digital piano the full amount of the purchase price can be applied to another piano for 2 years.

Neal and Anthony are great. Try all of the pianos. Come back another day. No pressure.

It is a store where you feel comfortable coming to shop. It does not matter your level of musical ability. You will feel welcome here. This is a local business. They are an example of great customer service”

Extremely Patient

“After a ton of research, a ton of trial playing and a too many questions…we’ve finally added a new Yamaha to the family home.  After working with Neil, who was extremely patient and knowledgeable, it just made the final decision so much easier.  Sometimes you just have to make a decision and jump off the log, into the pond…and so we did.  I’ve been playing it since it arrived and I’m still shaking my head over how beautiful it sounds.

Thank you Neil – we’ll see you in a few weeks for the follow up tune…if it needs it. :)”

Where Professional Players and Teachers Buy

“Pianowerkes has the most recent piano technology on their showroom floor. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about their product and the prices are very close to wholesale, which means you don’t have to argue about pricing! Pianowerkes is the store where professional players and teachers buy and rent their pianos. I highly recommend it.”

Thoroughly Prepared

“As a piano technician out in the field, I can attest that PianoWerkes makes sure each instrument has been thoroughly prepared and tuned prior to delivery, no exceptions. This substantially reduces the risk of issues manifesting themselves in your home. There’s a positive atmosphere to the place – an actual brick and mortar store for quality pianos, which has become a rarity of late. Neal and Anthony are always there ready to assist with genuine interest and no pretentiousness.”

Extraordinary Commitment to Musicians

“As a musician and afficianado Neal Hickson clearly understands the scarceness of finances in the world of non-profit organizations who bring great music and art to a community. As a businessman in our community, Neal’s willingness to generously donate the use of a beautiful piano from PianoWerkes is a measure of his extraordinary commitment to the musicians and music-lovers of Albuquerque.

“Ensemble Music New Mexico is the parent organization of “Church of Beethoven”, “Club Beethoven” and Chatter, a chamber Ensemble. We are a completely volunteer organization whose goal is to pay or musicians for the extraordinary gifts they give us. And we have been able to do just that. The professional musicians who are part of our concerts are local, regional and national. On June 5 we will inaugurate “Club Beethoven” with a clarinet and piano program of Gershwin, Messiaen, Reich and more. For pianist Conor Hanico to have a fine instrument on which to perform is enormously important – and essential to the success of the event.

“On behalf of the musicians, our audience, and all of our volunteers, Thank You!! We are tremendously appreciative that you so immediately and unselfishly offered us the piano for our first Club Beethoven concert.”

Integrity, Fairness, Knowledge

“I feel very fortunate to have met Neal Hickson at PianoWerkes. He helped me select my new Yamaha C7, answered my questions and offered sound, unpressured advice at all times. In the nearly four years since I purchased the piano, Neal has been more than helpful in answering any questions I had. I recommend Neal without reservation because of his integrity, fairness, knowledge of pianos, years of experience, service orientation and genuine interest in his clients.”

Phenomenal Service

“I bought my Clavinova at PianoWerkes. The service (Anthony) was phenomenal. I parked myself for hours and played at my hearts content. Along the way my questions were answered and throughout the week I was able to make the right decision about so many great choices. Delivery was easy and professional and I couldn’t be happier with my Clavinova. The truth is I’ve never been so satisfied with a major purchase in my life and I am a real finicky consumer who often doubts his decisions and frequently returns product. Hint: the Clavinova you play in the store will probably sound even better once it is on your home.”

Buying From the Right Place

“We recently purchased a Yamaha GC1M baby grand (5’3”) piano from PianoWerkes in Albuquerque, NM. We couldn’t be more pleased with the choice we made. From our first introduction to the showroom, Neal was extremely helpful in explaining the differences between the various models and demonstrating the features offered by each. His person interest in our satisfaction and efforts to enable us to stay within our budget confirmed that we were buying from the right place. This beautiful piano looks so elegant in our home, and the sound is just gorgeous. It is a delight to play and listen to, and it has already brought us much enjoyment. We feel that we have made an excellent investment and we look forward to many years of beautiful music!”

Couldn’t Be Happier

“I could not be happier with my experience with PianoWerkes. When I started my search, I had a good idea of the sound I was after, but no idea what type or brand of piano I should be looking at. The folks at PianoWerkes were very accommodating and helpful, and encouraged me to play a wide range of pianos; explaining the differences and helping me hone in on the perfect piano. Without that sort of relaxed, easy-going environment and the staff’s expert knowledge and guidance, I would probably still be looking.”

A Special Experience

“Buying a piano from PianoWerkes was a special experience for our family: not only did we gain a beautiful instrument for our son, a budding musician, but we also gained two wonderful friends in the process. Neal and Anthony are lovely and kind people and they know each of their pianos and their customers as individuals. Over nearly ten years, they have keenly supported our son’s music: he is not part of a local studio, so Neal and Anthony have kept a lookout for local performance opportunities for him and, any time we have needed a two-piano rehearsal space, they have graciously opened their doors. Getting to know them and their passion for music-making has been the best part of our experience at PianoWerkes!”

A Passion for Pianos

“Following a 30 year career on the Artist Piano Faculty of Arizona State University, life’s road directed that I begin two exciting musical ventures: 1) Opening the Los Alamos Piano Studio and 2) Co-Founding the Abiquiú Chamber Music Festival. Interestingly, both have been closely entwined with — and greatly enhanced by — close affiliation with PianoWerkes. In fact, my very first private student bought the very first piano sold by PianoWerkes (a Yamaha U1), and subsequently, nearly ALL of my 22 students have purchased their pianos there as well.

I allow only acoustic instruments for my students, and their unsurpassed ‘trade up’ policy has worked wonderfully. Beginning students frequently begin with a model suggested by Neal (who knows exactly the sound and action I am looking for my students to have), then “graduate” into a Yamaha U1, U3, etc., finally moving into a Yamaha or Schimmel Grand.

Every time a family has returned from meeting Neal at PianoWerkes and purchasing a new instrument, I always hear the most positive comments and satisfaction from the parents about the knowledge, no-pressure professionalism, care and attention that they received. Although only between the ages of 8 and 12 years old, it is no coincidence that of the five of my six finest students who recently Won or Placed in an annual NM Piano Competition — ALL of those five now play on Yamaha or Schimmel Grands.

Additionally, Neal helped me immensely when setting up my studio by offering a wide selection of grands for me to ‘audition,’ and my selecting a beautifully-toned Yamaha C-5 that was perfect for my particular space. Likewise, the Abiquiú Chamber Music Festival is now entering its fifth successful summer season in 2012. For that, we use the Schimmel Konzert Series — and it is truly a remarkable and responsive instrument that every single solo artist and chamber collaborator loves playing. I couldn’t imagine any other instrument in this uniquely intimate setting. The festival has featured piano artists from New Mexico, New York, Texas, California, Brazil, Israel, and Ukraine, with each one truly grateful at having such a wonderful performance instrument.

One of life’s great ironies is that PianoWerkes owner Neal Hickson was a former student and piano major at Arizona State University. That Neal himself is professionally trained as a pianist is truly important for prospective clients. He has been working for two decades prior to establishing PianoWerkes in Albuquerque in matching families and artists with instruments uniquely suited to them, and knows intimately — from his own training — the characteristics and individual nature of each-and-every instrument in the inventory. This combination of professionalism, commitment to the client, and total integrity truly reflects their motto of ‘a passion for pianos.’”

We are returning customers thanks to the very generous trade-up policy. Deciding whether or not to enter the world of piano ownership is a material decision, and the comfort of knowing that we could apply our prior purchase to an upgrade … More is a generous perk that allowed us to upgrade after learning that we are in it for the long haul.

My mom and brother went to Piano Werkes to purchase a piano and had a great experience with their customer service. The staff were very helpful in answering all of our questions, especially since my mom doesn't speak English very well. … More They patiently explained everything to her and made the whole process very easy for them!
The piano was delivered promptly and with great care. Best of all, they even scheduled a free tuning session after delivery! We highly recommend Piano Werkes to anyone in search of a high-quality piano and excellent customer service.

Even though my budget was small, Neal and Anthony treated me like a valued customer. Neal spent time showing me each piano in my price range and talking me through the pros and cons of each one. Very knowledgeable and helpful people! I have two old pianos that I wanted to consign and get a newer, better piano. PianoWerkes has a good selection of new & used pianos. They also have a good website. Neal was very helpful in helping … More me decide on styles, sizes & prices of pianos. They let me schedule time to come & play the pianos, which was very helpful. I ended up getting a new Yamaha piano. This was a great shopping experience!

I am so thrilled with how Neal Hickson at Piano Werkes steered me in the absolute right direction on the purchase of a Yamaha baby grand. I wasn't sure which type of piano I wanted and I was moving from the East Coast to Santa Fe … More - and he was extremely patient with me as I tried nearly 20 pianos of various kinds (and even supplied me with piano music to play). The sale was smooth and I'm so happy with the piano. I highly recommend them!

We had a great experience at Piano Werkes. Neil was very quick to respond to our inquiry to visit. We were given a time slot where we could browse as the only people in the store so we were not distracted by others playing while we browsed. … More Neil asked us what we were looking for and gave us his sincere recommendations. He also helped us to step back and listen while he played so we got a full understanding of the sound of some of the pianos. We had no pressure or rush to purchase - we took a night to decide between two pianos. As a plus, they also have a great trade in policy! I highly recommend them as your source of purchase for your next piano. They have a good selection of both new and used pianos.
